Compress PDF reduces the file size of a PDF so it fits email attachments and the size limits of upload portals. It works best on PDFs with photos and scans, whose images are re-compressed and scaled down; choose Smallest for screens and email, Balanced for most uses, or High quality to keep detail for printing. The result shows how much smaller the file became, and if a PDF is already compact you get the original back rather than a bigger file. Compression uses Ghostscript on our server, and the file is deleted right after. PDFs with fillable forms keep their fields but shrink less.

Questions

How much smaller will my PDF get?

It depends on the content. Scans and photo-heavy PDFs often shrink by 50–90%. Text-only PDFs are already small and may barely change.

Will the text stay sharp?

Yes. Text and vector graphics are kept as they are; only images are re-compressed.

My PDF must be under a specific size. What do I do?

Try Smallest first. If it is still too big, split the PDF into parts with Split PDF and compress each part.

Is my file uploaded?

Yes. This tool needs our server, so the file is sent over an encrypted connection, processed, and deleted as soon as the result is sent back. It is never stored, shared or looked at. Most other tools on this site run entirely in your browser.

Is there a size limit?

Files can be up to 30 MB. Very large or complex files can take up to a couple of minutes.
