PDF to Markdown
Turn a PDF into Markdown with headings and lists, for notes, wikis and AI tools. Free, and it runs on your device.
PDF to Markdown turns the text of a PDF into Markdown: larger text becomes headings, bullet and numbered lines become lists, and wrapped lines are joined back into paragraphs, with words split by a hyphen put back together. The result is ready for note apps such as Obsidian and Notion, for wikis and documentation, or for pasting into an AI assistant. Choose the pages, copy the Markdown or download it as an .md file. Everything happens in your browser.

Questions
Are tables converted?
No. Table cells come out as lines of text; tidy them up by hand if you need a Markdown table.
Why is no text found?
The PDF is probably a scan: pictures of pages with no text inside. OCR PDF reads the text from the pictures.
Will the layout be kept?
The words and their order are; the design isn't. PDFs store text by position, so columns side by side can be read across and tables come out as lines of text.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser, so the document stays on your device.
