This tool uses our server. Your file is sent over an encrypted connection, processed, and deleted as soon as the result comes back. It is never stored or shared. How files are handled

Unlock PDF removes the password from a PDF when you know it, so the file opens without asking every time and can be edited, merged or signed with the other tools on this site. It also removes restrictions on printing and copying that some PDFs carry. You must enter the correct password: this tool does not guess or crack passwords. Unlocking runs with qpdf on our server; the file and the password are deleted right after.

Questions

Can it unlock a PDF if I don't know the password?

No. You need the password that opens the file. This tool does not guess or crack passwords.

Why does it say the password is wrong?

Check capital letters and spaces. Bank statements often use a combination such as part of your name and date of birth; the sender usually explains the format.

Is my file uploaded?

Yes. This tool needs our server, so the file is sent over an encrypted connection, processed, and deleted as soon as the result is sent back. It is never stored, shared or looked at. Most other tools on this site run entirely in your browser.

Is there a size limit?

Files can be up to 30 MB. Very large or complex files can take up to a couple of minutes.
