Hide Text in Image
Hide a secret message inside a picture, with an optional password, and read it back later. Free, on your device.
Hide Text in Image writes a message into the pixels of a picture (steganography). The picture looks the same, because each color value changes by 1 at most, but the message can be read back here with the same tool. Add a password to encrypt it with AES-256. The result is a PNG, because only a lossless file keeps the message: a JPG copy, a resize, or a chat app that recompresses pictures wipes it out.
How to use Hide Text in Image
- 1
Add a picture
Choose Hide a message, then drop or choose a photo.
- 2
Write the message
Type your message and, if you like, a password.
- 3
Download and share the PNG
Send the PNG as a file. To read it, open it here and choose Read a message.
What it does
- Looks the same
- Each color value changes by 1 at most, which the eye can't see.
- Optional password
- AES-256 encryption; without the password the message can't be read.
- Checked before download
- The saved PNG is read back to make sure the message survived.
Questions
Why did my message disappear?
The picture was changed after saving: converted to JPG, resized, or recompressed by a chat or social app. Share the PNG as a file, or in a zip, so it arrives unchanged.
How long can the message be?
About 3 bytes per 8 pixels: a 12-megapixel photo holds several megabytes, far more than any text. The tool shows how much space is left.
Is it secure?
With a password, the message is encrypted with AES-256, so only someone with the password can read it. Without one, anyone using a steganography tool like this could find it. Hiding a message is not the same as strong secrecy, so use a password for anything private.
Is my picture uploaded?
No. Hiding, encryption and reading all happen on your device.
