Remove Image Metadata

Remove EXIF data such as GPS location, camera model and date from a photo before you share it.

Remove Image Metadata creates a clean copy of your photo without its hidden EXIF information. Photos from phones and cameras often record the GPS location where they were taken, the device model, and the date and time. For JPG, PNG and WebP, only that information is cut out of the file: the picture itself isn't saved again, so its quality and colors stay exactly the same. The new file size is shown before you download.

How to use Remove Image Metadata

  1. 1

    Open the photo

Drop, choose or paste a JPG, PNG, WebP or iPhone HEIC photo.

  2. 2

    Check the clean copy

The preview shows the image that will be saved, together with its new file size.

  3. 3

    Keep the format

Keeping the original format removes only the metadata, with no change in quality. If you switch format, the image is saved again: for JPG and WebP use 90% to 100% quality, or choose PNG.

  4. 4

Download and share the new file

Click Download and share this copy instead of the original photo.

What it does

Removes location and camera data
GPS coordinates, camera make and model, lens, capture date and other EXIF and IPTC fields are not written to the new file.
No quality loss
JPG, PNG and WebP keep their exact pixels and color profile; only the hidden data is cut out.
File size readout
See the size of the clean file before you download it.
Done on your device
Your photo is never uploaded, so its location data is not shared with anyone during the process.

Questions

What metadata is removed?

EXIF data (camera, settings, date and GPS), IPTC and XMP fields such as author or copyright, comments and PNG text. The color profile is kept so colors don't change, and a JPG keeps its orientation so it isn't shown sideways.

Does removing metadata change the image quality?

Not when you keep the format: JPG, PNG and WebP files aren't saved again, so every pixel stays the same. If you convert to another format, or start from an iPhone HEIC photo, the image is saved again, so choose a high quality.

How can I check that the location is gone?

Open the downloaded file in Image Analyzer. It reads EXIF data on your device and shows a warning when a GPS location is present.

Do apps and websites remove EXIF data for me?

Some large platforms remove part of the metadata when you upload, but email, messaging apps and file sharing often send the original file unchanged. Removing it yourself is the safe choice.

Can I remove metadata from iPhone HEIC photos?

Yes. The HEIC photo is converted in your browser and the clean copy is saved as JPG by default.
