Questions
What is an AVIF file?
AVIF is an image format based on the AV1 video codec. It makes much smaller files than JPG at the same quality, which is why many websites use it, but older software can't open it.
Will the JPG be bigger than the AVIF?
Usually, yes. AVIF compresses very efficiently, so the same image as a JPG is often two or three times larger. That is the price of a file every program can open.
Why can't my browser open the AVIF?
Very old browsers can't decode AVIF. Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari (version 16 or later) all can. If the file still won't open, it may be damaged.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Your browser decodes and converts the image on your device.
